1. Different types of PV systems

Solar energy exists where there is sunlight. PV systems are widely applied, such as solar street lighting, solar irrigation, solar insecticide, etc. As a solar products supplier, we divided PV systems based on different uses. In general, the PV systems can be divided into grid-connected systems, off-grid systems and hybrid systems.

(1) Grid-connected system

As the name shows, it is connected to the grid. This type of system is mainly used in areas where there is an electrical grid, and the electricity generated by solar energy is directly provided to household appliances, which saves electricity bills. The rest of the electricity is directly merged into the national grid to obtain profits from selling electricity. This is also the main application type of PV systems currently.

(2) Off-grid system

It is mainly used in areas far from the electrical grid, such as islands, mountainous areas and uninhabited deserts. It is difficult to connect the electrical grid to these areas, but electricity is required for production operations. The electric energy generated by the PV system is supplied to local electrical appliances, and the excess energy is stored in the storage battery for emergency needs.

(3) Hybrid system

It combines the characteristics of the grid-connected system and off-grid system. It can not only provide the electricity generated by the commercial PV systems to household appliances, but also sell the excess electricity to the national grid or store it for reuse when electricity prices are high.

2. How does the PV system work?

During the day with light conditions, solar cell modules can generate an electromotive force. The solar cell array is formed by the series and parallel connection of the components so that the voltage of the array can meet the requirements of the input voltage of the system. Then, the electric energy converted from light energy will be stored by charging the battery through a charge-discharge controller.

At night, the battery pack can provide the input power for the inverter. It can convert the direct current into the alternating current and transmit to the power distribution cabinet. And the power is supplied by the switching action of the power distribution cabinet. The discharge condition of the battery pack is controlled by the controller to ensure its normal use.

The PV power station system should also have limited load protection and lightning protection devices to protect the unloaded operation of the system equipment and avoid lightning strikes, and maintain its safe use.
